A Review of "A call on mother Earth" a spokenword by Servant Daniel

"A call unto mother Earth" is a spoken word piece written as an Elegy but spoken from the deepest part of the heart in view of the Covid 19 pandemic that has disrupted the lives and existence on Earth.

The poet behind this great work is Daniel Kwaku Odame popularly known in the poetry fraternity as Servant Daniel. He is a poet by nature and a continuing student of the Cape Coast University, Ghana. He has written a volume of poetry pieces (Poems) and mostly his works are reactionary, that is his works tend to address societal, national and international issues.

Therefore, it is not surprising to see him with another work on this pandemic but what is more surprising is the quality, scope, scale and complexity of creativity that went into this work. "A call on mother Earth".

This spoken word piece started with a captivating sound of interest followed by a syntactic figure( more specifically Repetition) "Mother, Mother, Oh Mother". The tone of the voice that followed came with these words " I call you from the core of my heart" this paints a clear picture of pain and hurt.

The structure of this piece creates a transparent image of grief and pain over the pandemic that has taken over the world.

The poem creatively use excellent figurative means to present the Earth as a feminine figure not just that but a mother that has come face to face with danger and her children experiencing a strigent effect.  This is evidence in the use of "Asaase Yaa". Asaase Yaa is the Earth goddessof fertility of the Ashanti people ethnic group of Ashanti City-State of Ghana. She is also known as Mother Earth or Aberewaa.

The rhymes and rhythmic sound play was just perfect, imagine how the poet was able to swindle "ITALY" and  BITTER LEAVE" to rhyme. That is what I called a rhythmic sound play. I think he deserves an applause.

The creativity around the use of the country names and other words creates a dramatic scenes of what the world is facing is just beautiful in sound.

He skillfully presented the issue more than any writing would have done. The writer did not just lament but have rested his hope on God. He therefore used this same piece to offer a prayer on behalf of the world and lyrically prophesized that the pandemic would not last for we have  a bigger God.

I think this is a must watch for everyone.
